Beth Collins, MD
Palliative Care Physician, Lahey Hospital and Medical Center

Dr. Collins is a recently retired Palliative Care physician. Her career at Lahey Hospital and Medical Center began in primary care. In 2004 she founded the Palliative Care service at Lahey, which is now the Department of Palliative Medicine and Geriatrics. Her passion is to improve the quality of care for every individual, especially when seriously ill. She continues to serve on Palliative Care committees in retirement, which she is grateful to be continuing in Maine.

 

Alicia Murray, DNP, MSN, RN, CHPN, CNE
Associate Professor and Director of Graduate Nursing, Husson University

Dr. Murray is an Associate Professor at Husson University.  She is the director of the Master’s in nursing science program.  She completed her Doctrine of Nursing Practice at Quinnipiac University focused on population health.  She possesses a strong background in community health nursing spanning 35 years in rural Maine.  Her practice ranges from military nursing, intensive care, emergency care, hospice and palliative care, and academia.  She is the board president for the Maine Hospice Council and the Hospice and Palliative Credentialing Center.  She is a native to Maine and resides in Glenburn.  She believes in serving the underserved populations in the state.

Kandyce Powell, RN, MSN
Executive Director, Maine Hospice Council and Center for End of Life Care

Kandyce has 40 years of professional experience working with end-of-life issues.  From 1984-1992, she was the Director of Hospice of Lincoln County.  Since 1992, she has been the Executive Director of the Maine Hospice Council and Center for End-of-Life Care in Augusta.  The scope of the organization’s mission is to “promote quality end-of-life care through innovation, creativity, advocacy, education, and collaboration.”  Kandyce has been instrumental in developing grant-funded partnerships to address many programs and projects that have since been replicated nationally and internationally.  The “Hospice/Veterans Partnership” in collaboration with Togus VAMC, and the “Maine State Prison End-of-Life Program,” being two examples.  Over her lifetime she has been a tireless advocate for the underserved.  Kandyce has also co-authored several pieces of legislation impacting end of life care.  She has been a mentor to many graduate students, doctoral candidates, and medical residents.
